Shopping Season

A whole season devoted to shopping...what could possibly be more suited to fit me?! As a self-professed shopping addict I have learned that I need to save as much money as I can so that I can buy more things. Smokin Joes has become the best place to do this. I can get so much more stuff for my money than at other stores. I went shopping there yesterday for gifts for my family and I honestly found something for everyone. I bought my Uncle Mike a Buck Wear T-shirt, he's an avid hunter so I know he will just love it. My gramma will be the recipient of a beautiful cross ornament and some christmas knick knacks (which Smokin Joes has a TON of).

Smokin Joes even has wrapping supplies... well I'm not sure if there are any left if you saw the amount I bought. I hate when I go shopping and stores run out of gift boxes, Smokin Joes had them for $.50 for 2 boxes! They also had a ton of bows and gift tags cheaper than the dollar store... how on earth do you beat the dollar store?!

You will have to stop in and check out the great deals and do it soon before I buuy out the store!

Snow Snow Snow

I just got word that a new attraction is coming to Niagara Falls! It is called Snow Park Niagara and they are going to have outdoor snow tubing and ice skating downtown. I heard that thew ice rink will be NHL regulation sized and the snow tubing hill will be 50-feet high. I'm really excited to go to this, there's nothing to do in the Falls during winter! And I was added as a friend on their Facebook and MySpace pages... I think they know I shop at Smokin Joes too much.

Ahhh They're driving me crazy!!

So, I went into Smokin Joes today and everything is all switched around... but, it looks AWESOME! The men's suit department now has their own room with more suits than I can imagine or count to (hey, I didn't study math in college, okay). Just kidding, I could probably count them if I tried but I would definitely be there a while!

The show department moved to where the suits use to be and I think they got a lot more things in. I found these fabulous red Eckko shoes. Eckko is really not my style but these were great. They even had Harley Davidson boots for men and women.

On top of all that I spotted a new women's section that now carries....drum roll please.... SMET! I saw the SMET shirts on the Real World and was so mad because I knew it'd be like 3 years before it got to our neck of the woods. But thanks to my crew at Smokin Joes I will be able to wear the trendy stuff while it's still trendy! (I call them my 'crew' because I am there so much.. they probably call me a stalker ;) )

Anyway, if you haven't been in yet, check it out but bring your wallet because I guarantee you will find something you want.

You should stop in and pick some up before I go back and buy them all.

Birthdays!

This summer has been filled with birthdays.  Three in June, four in July, and two in August, I am overwhelmed!  My mom's birthday was last week and I was trying to figure out what to get her. I was faced with the same problem I have had every year...What do you get a woman who has everything and doesn't need or want anything? While sifting through the mail, I saw the Smokin Joes grocery flier (yes, I signed up for their newsletters too), and on it was an ad for the jewelry department.

It was destined for me because they are having a sale on all peridot jewelry, August's birthstone.  It was all 15% off!! Plus the Leslie gold jewelry that I got my mom last year was 10% off.  Needless to say I went in and bought her a beautiful peridot necklace and matching bracelet set. The best part is I spent under my budget, but she doesn't know that so shhhh.

School Savings!

Summer is almost over and that only means one thing....School starts soon! Bummer. But, I am a little less bummed out because I found great deals that Smokin Joes has for back to school. I am going to college so I need to stock up on great clothes like Ed Hardy and Junk Food, comfy jeans by Of The Earth, and cute accessories and book bags. They have a great new line of organic bags by Of The Earth that are perfect for books. And get this, I can even save money on my groceries from there! They have deli meats that are WAY cheaper than the other stores and they even have a dollar aisle. Talk about saving a broke college kid some money!

This semester is going to be a lot easier with the help of Smokin Joes. With all the money I'll save, I will be able to go on spring break!!

Why Am I?

I came across a really great pair of jeans yesterday! Why am I so excited? Well, if you are anything like me you know that great jeans are hard to come by for less that $70. I found a the best jeans ever and they fit me like a dream, aka they make my derriere look good! I got them at Smokin Joes. They are by YMI Jeanswear. I never heard of them before so I asked someone there about them. They told me that the jeans I had tried on were worn by celebrities and even Miss Universe. I really loved the different washes and styles of them. Plus they aren't very low rise so I won't be showing of my derriere outside of the jeans!

The best part is that most of them are around $30... Smokin Joes even has shorts too.

Going Green

I had to go to Smokin Joes the other day for gas, which I got for $3.94 a gallon. I never thought I would be excited to pay that for gas but those are the times. They give you 5 cents off a gallon when you pay with cash, talk about a good deal! Anyway, I stopped inside to see what new things they got in and I saw an entirely new line of clothing called Of The Earth. It is an organic clothing and fabric line. Smokin Joes has Of The Earth bags, shirts, and pants. They are REALLY comfortable. I bought a cute bag for my school books and a T-shirt so everyone else knows that I am going green too! Of The Earth started out with baby, children and adult clothing as well as bath, bedding and furniture. Of The Earth now has Organic apparel and home for the entire family.

Be a part of the Going Green trend and stop in Smokin Joes for your Of The Earth products!

Junk Food!

No, I am not talking about potato chips.  This is better than chips.  Smokin Joes now carries Junk Food T-shirts.  They have a ton of them there too.  If you haven't heard of them you have been living under a rock, but I will explain anyway.  They are vintage looking T-shirts that feature various bands and images from pop culture.  They have ones with Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and even ones with the Smurfs!

I bought a really cute on that has this cartoon on the front and above it it says "Little Miss Sunshine."  They had the matching sweater there too.  Junk Food T's have caught on in Hollywood and have been seen on Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, and Miley Cyrus.  The best part is that they start at only $20! Talk about a good deal.  These are really great for back to school and can be dressed up or down. Paris Hilton had one on at an NYC fashion show.

Smokin Joes also had some for guys too that had the old Batman symbol and other neat pop culture symbols from when we were younger.

Wedding Season!

This weekend I had the pleasure of dragging my boyfriend to a friend's wedding. The day before I asked him if he had a suit to wear. He said "yes" and I asked him to put it on... good thing too! It looked like it fit him in high school. After talking him into buying a new suit I decided to take him to Smokin Joes first. The menswear manager Burt Fatta came over to help him find the perfect suit.

They had a ton of suits from short to big and tall and in hard to find colors and styles too. On top of all that they were name brands which my boyfriend was happy about.

He found one that looked awesome on him and can you believe it was only $60?! I thought my eyes were beginning to go bad. The only problem was that the sleeves were a little too long. Again, to my surprise, Burt informed us that there was an on site tailor who could help us. Millie came right over and said that she would have the sleeves hemmed for us in time for the wedding.

Burt also showed us their selection of dress shirts, ties, and cuff links to go with the suit. They were all designer too like Calvin Klein, DKNY, and Calibri. We would have got them had I not already bought a dress shirt, tie, and cuff links at Smokin Joes for his birthday!

My boyfriend was happy this 'ordeal' only cost him $60 and he has a nice suit that will last a long time. I was happy that he wouldn't look like a schmuck at the wedding.

I wear my sunglasses at night

Well I don't really wear them at night, I just thought of that song. Anyway, I went back to Smokin Joes this weekend to check out their new shirts the girl told me about. They are really cute by the way, but I not only found the shirts, I found sunglasses!! Sunglasses that match the swimsuit I just bought. Needless to say I was so excited. They looked awesome. I am going on vacation to Palm Beach in August and these would be perfect to wear with my swimsuit. The sunglasses start at $185, but after my last mistake with the swimsuit I knew these were the best price.

I went home and googled the glasses I bought and guess how much they were, $255! I knew Smokin Joes wouldn't disappoint. They saved me $70.. oo that's a new hoodie.

I think I may be going back to Smokin Joes, soon.

No More Beach Bums!

Now you no longer have an excuse for going to the beach in your shabby swimsuit that's 3 years old. Say bye bye to polka dots, stripes, solid colors and the chance that someone else has the same swimsuit as you.

Ed Hardy is taking over! I went to Smokin Joes yesterday and saw a salesgirl hanging up the swimsuits from Ed Hardy they just got in. I've slowly gotten addicted to their tank tops and hoodies and became really excited when I saw these swimsuits. The best part is Ed Hardy has 1 and 2 piece swimsuits in really hot designs.

I looked and left without buying but later regretted not picking one up. I went to the grocery store and saw on the front cover of a magazine Heidi Montag from the Hills in one of Ed Hardy's swimsuits. My guilt set in and I knew I had to have one, so I went back this morning and bought it. Here's the best part. I thought that I would be able to get better deal online but nope. Smokin Joes has their swimsuits starting at $105, the cheapest I saw online was $155.

Now that I have my awesome swimsuit I just need to make it a bit warmer around here so I can show it off. The sales girl also told me that new short sleeved and long sleeved shirts are coming in next week!

Oh here's the one I bought

Tuscarora Olympian

Frank Mount Pleasant may not sound like a familiar name but he has one of the largest displays at the Native American Museum of Art. Frank was an Olympic athlete from the Tuscarora Reservation who participated in the 1908 Olympic games in London. Frank began his athletic career in 1904 at the Carlisle Indian School in Pennsylvania where he excelled in football and track.

The 1908 Olympian placed sixth in the long jump despite a ligament injury and was awarded two Olympic Commemorative medals. Today the Native America Museum of Art, located on the Tuscarora Reservation, is home to six of Frank’s track and field medals including the two Olympic medals.

Frank eventually became the first American Indian to earn a diploma and served as an Army lieutenant in WWI and was decorated for bravery. Photos and memorabilia of Frank Mount Pleasant are on display year-round and museum entrance is free to patrons.

One Stop Shopping

Shop Smart

A guide for buying Diamonds

Ever go shopping without knowing what you’re looking for? Of course! For shoes, a cute bag, or even clothing - but when it comes to jewelry what you don’t know could empty your pocketbook. Learn the basics of shopping for fine jewelry from professional jeweler Rob Young of Smokin Joes® fine jewelry department.

“The first thing people ask when they come in is, “where is the diamond jewelry?” said Young. “What they don’t know is what they should be looking for.”

Finding the perfect diamond jewelry for your budget isn’t always easy, but these tips can help you know what to look for. The industry refers to diamond classifications by the ‘4 C’s’ of a Diamond; Cut, Carat, Color, Clarity. Each of these C’s determines the diamond’s worth and level of perfection.

The 4 C’s of a Diamond
CUT: Refers to the proportions and finish of a diamond. It may also mean shape.
CARAT: Refers to the actual weight of the diamond. Ex. ¼ ct., 1ct. etc.
COLOR: Diamonds typically display colors of yellow, gray, or brown. The whiter or more colorless a diamond is, the more valuable. The color scale ranges from
D-M, with D being the most colorless.
CLARITY: It is the position of a diamond on a FLAWLESS to IMPERFECT scale. Very rarely is a diamond considered flawless....

FL-Flawless
These stones have no imperfections inside or on the outside of the stone under the magnification of a loupe of a 10 power. These are very hard to find and VERY expensive.

IF-Internally Flawless
These stones have no inclusions under a loupe with a 10-power magnification.

VVS1, VVS2-Very Very Slightly Imperfect
These stones have very small inclusions, which are very difficult to see under a loupe with a 10-power magnification.

VS1, VS2-Very Slightly Imperfect
These stones have small inclusions, which are slightly difficult to difficult to see under a loupe with a 10-power magnification.

SI1, SI2-Slightly Imperfect
These stones have inclusions which are fairly easy to see under a loupe with a 10 power magnification, or visible to the naked eye.

I1, I2, I3-Imperfect
These stones have inclusions, which range from eye visible to very easily seen to the naked eye.

Don’t get carried away looking for the most flawless diamond with a D on the color scale. It is most likely that you won’t find it unless you stole it from Queen Elizabeth herself! What you can look for is something that fits your budget. The clarity and color scales are judged by looking at a diamond through a microscope and without a trained eye, it is hard to tell the difference between a D, E, F or FL, IF, VVS, or VS.

Another thing to look for is a certified diamond. The certification of a diamond by an independent third party is a guarantee of the diamond’s quality. The certificate includes the diamond’s weight, actual measurements, clarity, and color grade. It also contains information on the shape and style, proportions, and symmetry ratings.

Smokin Joes® diamonds are certified by the Gemological Institute of America, (GIA) which is the world’s foremost authority in gemology, diamond grading, jewelry education, and gemology research. The European Gemological Laboratory, (EGL) USA is also one of the world’s premier independent gemological laboratories.
